Londons Gone Illustration Crazy!

There’s like some sort of illustration fever happening around the usually drab old London town at the moment. Big names like Coca Cola, Cadbury’s (thanks Kate! [katemoross.com/cadburies]), Orange and Vodafone all splashing lush illustrated images over the capital’s innumerable billboards. Following on from the brilliant but fleeting YCNatRCA [see boicozine/1024] exhibition, there has been a whole raft of illustration and ‘drawing’ events taking place too. The Big Draw East [thebigdraw.org] took place around Bethnal Green, Spitalfields and Hackney in East London on the weekend. Most exciting of all, coming up from September 15th is designersblock:illustrate [designersblock.org.uk/blog].

Designersblock is a now regular international event showcasing the work of designer/makers touching on the fields of industrial and furniture design. For their 10th anniversary this year, they’re launching an illustration event which promises to showcase the work of 80 illustration and image making teams over the space of 40 commercial ‘units’ plus associated performance and interactive events. Part of the excitement comes from discovering the venue for their various events as Designersblock usually manage to find quirky, unfinished industrial sites for their exhibitions. You can find out more over at their slightly shoddy website (c’mon Poke [pokelondon.com], pull yer finger out) or look out for the more attractive posters popping up around town.

Due to a distinct lack of promotional stuff online here’s a picture of last years excellent ribbon rosette style invitation…
